Inspection scope and corrective work

An inspection and the repairs it identifies are separate parts of the visit. Aircraft records, installed equipment, maintenance history and the applicable inspection requirements help establish the scope. A discrepancy may need further diagnosis, parts or corrective work before the aircraft can be returned to service.

Tell us about known issues at the beginning. An intermittent symptom, recent maintenance or a previous repair can be useful context even when the aircraft otherwise feels familiar.

A practical inspection sequence

  1. Review the aircraft and records

Gather logbooks, equipment information, previous findings and a written discrepancy list. Discuss the inspection requested and any planned maintenance.

  2. Inspect and assess

The aircraft and its condition determine the findings. Separate the inspection scope from troubleshooting or repair work that may be identified.

  3. Discuss the next steps

Review findings, proposed corrective work, parts needs and timing. Confirm additional work and approvals before expanding the agreed scope.

Bring or arrange access to

  • Airframe, engine and propeller logbooks, plus relevant equipment records.
  • Recent inspection entries, maintenance history and existing discrepancy lists.
  • Installed equipment and modification paperwork, including STC or repair documents if available.
  • Current aircraft information and any inspection timing or aircraft-use plans.
  • Keys and an agreed handover plan. Confirm which records or items should accompany the aircraft.

Common inspection questions

Can I schedule repairs at the same time?

Yes, discuss known maintenance needs when requesting the inspection. Additional findings may affect the work, parts and timeline; the final scope is specific to your aircraft.

Can you quote a fixed completion date before seeing the aircraft?

Share your target date early. Timing needs to account for inspection findings, aircraft access and parts availability; confirm the schedule directly with the shop.

What if I am unsure which inspection I need?

Send the aircraft details, intended use and the relevant records or inspection dates you have. The applicable scope can be discussed before the visit.
